What our client’s had to say

“As you know I have promoted high-performance homes for over 12 years and am familiar with the pitch to homeowners. But it wasn't until yesterday that I truly felt the extraordinary difference for myself.

Saturday brought a classic hot, blustery 'norwester' in Canterbury, and my wife and I were home trying to get some work done. We live in a solid brick home with generous proportions and a large north-facing section. Despite double glazing and a reasonable amount of shading we were hot and flustered. The combination of strong wind buffeting the building and the dry heat is a draining combo. So Jolene and I decided to go and see how the new home we're building was performing against this heat wave and wind. We knew there was no power on and the shade blinds on the upstairs windows were up, so it was going to be a good test of the building envelope!

As we drove around to the new home we could see the wind whipping the trees and felt it pushing the vehicle around as we drove. Walking from the car to the house, we felt the wind and heat. The wind in the scaffolding was so noisy, that we could scarcely hear an incoming plane at the nearby Christchurch airport.

Then we got inside, and everything changed. Inside was cool and quiet. The 19 degrees inside provided a welcome relief from the 28 degrees outside, and the only sound was the echo of our footsteps as we walked through the house on the bare concrete. We stopped walking and talking, and just listened. It was almost silent and the wind was barely audible; just a faint rushing noise. As we walked upstairs, the temperature barely changed. Even the upstairs northwest bedroom was cool and comfortable, despite the large windows to both north and west directions.

It was truly unbelievable.

Thanks for all the work modelling the thermal performance during design, and helping us make good decisions. It works.”
